Counting Down Pokemon Favorites : GENERATION 2

Continuing the Pokemon countdown of my favorites from each generation! 

So, I've selection three Pokemon from each; one winner, and two runner-ups. 

This is taking into account my feelings of the Pokemon's design, stats, and my personal experience with them in battle.

I won't include legendaries in the generations; just normal Pokemon.

HERACROSS
the Single Horn Pokemon

Generation II

Gold This powerful Pokémon thrusts its prized horn under its enemies' bellies then lifts and throws them. Silver Usually docile, but if disturbed while sipping honey, it chases off the intruder with its horn. Crystal With its Herculean powers, it can easily throw around an object that is 100 times its own weight. Stadium 2 This powerful Pokémon thrusts its prized horn under the enemies' bellies then lifts and throws them.

Generation III

Ruby Heracross charges in a straight line at its foe, slips beneath the foe's grasp, and then scoops up and hurls the opponent with its mighty horn. This Pokémon even has enough power to topple a massive tree. Sapphire Heracross has sharp claws on its feet. These are planted firmly into the ground or the bark of a tree, giving the Pokémon a secure and solid footing to forcefully fling away foes with its proud horn. Emerald They gather in forests seeking the sweet sap of trees. It is completely clad in a steel-hard shell. It is proud of its horn, which it uses to fling foes. FireRed Usually docile, but if disturbed while sipping honey, it chases off the intruder with its horn. LeafGreen This powerful Pokémon thrusts its prized horn under its enemies' bellies, then lifts and throws them.

Generation IV

Diamond It gathers in forests to search for tree sap, its favorite food. It's strong enough to hurl foes. Pearl With powerful legs and claws, it generates enough power to hurl foes over great distances. Platinum It loves sweet honey. To keep all the honey to itself, it hurls rivals away with its prized horn. HeartGold This powerful Pokémon thrusts its prized horn under the enemies' bellies then lifts and throws them. SoulSilver It is usually docile, but if it is disturbed while sipping honey, it chases off the intruder with its horn.

Generation V
Black It loves sweet honey. To keep all the honey to itself, it hurls rivals away with its prized horn. White Black 2 No matter how heavy its opponents, it flings them far away with its prized horn. White 2

Generation VI
X This powerful Pokémon thrusts its prized horn under its enemies' bellies, then lifts and throws them. Y With its Herculean powers, it can easily throw around an object that is 100 times its own weight.

I've always admired the members of the insect kingdom, especially any type of beetle. So, I was super excited when they revealed a Bug/Fighting beetle Pokemon to the game. I didn't really appreciate Bug-types until I started playing with Grass and Poison types. Bug type just seemed to fully round out my moveset, so now a lot of my personal teams center around these three. Since Heracross got a super sweet MEGA EVOLUTION in Generation 6, you can bet that he's a member on my roster (his nickname is Samson ;) ) 

Heracross's design just oozes awesome. He's easily the king of all Bug type Pokemon, and his badass Mega form only proves it. Heracross really deserves to be here.

DELIBIRD
the Delivery Pokemon

It spends all day carrying food to its awaiting chicks. Crystal It always carries its food with it, wherever it goes. If attacked, it throws its food at the opponent. Generation III Ruby Delibird carries its food bundled up in its tail. There once was a famous explorer who managed to reach the peak of Mt. Everest thanks to one of these Pokémon sharing its food. Generation IV Diamond It carries food rolled up in its tail. It has the habit of sharing food with people lost in mountains. Pearl Platinum HeartGold It carries food all day long. No offense to my main man Articuno, but I've never embraced Ice-type. It just seemed like a cop-out from Water types.... and its' only real usefulness for me was to go up against Dragon-type. But seriously, I'm not fond of many of the Ice-types aesthetically....  except for this little cutie... another Ice/Flying ... Delibird! It's one of those Pokemon I just don't understand why canonical they haven't done more with. I mean, it has great Pokedex entries to make great storylines and if we wanted to expand on the baby Pokemon, a little Delibird pre-evolution would be perfect! I haven't personally played with a Delibird in game, but of the 2nd generation Pokemon, Delibird has been one of my favorite designs. And Delibird Delivery was one of my favorite mini-games in Pokemon Stadium 2

FLAAFFY
the Wool Pokemon

Generation II Gold As a result of storing too much electricity, it developed patches where even downy wool won't grow. Silver Its fluffy fleece easily stores electricity. Its rubbery hide keeps it from being electrocuted. Crystal Because of its rubbery, electricity-resistant skin, it can store lots of electricity in its fur. Generation III Ruby Flaaffy's wool quality changes so that it can generate a high amount of static electricity with a small amount of wool. The bare and slick parts of its hide are shielded against electricity. Sapphire Emerald Its fleece quality changes to generate strong static electricity with a small amount of wool. The bare, slick parts of its hide are shielded against electricity. FireRed Its fluffy fleece easily stores electricity. Its rubbery hide keeps it from being electrocuted. LeafGreen As a result of storing too much electricity, it developed patches where even downy wool won't grow.

Flaaffy is my favorite Generation 2 Pokemon because IT'S SO FUCKING ADORABLE!

If Pokemon were to ever become real, I'd want a Flaaffy as a friend. We would cuddle <3

Not to mention that these little dudes really pack a punch! As Mareep, they are kind of fragile, but in the adolescent form, Flaaffy kicks some serious ass. On a nuzlocke run I did of Pokemon Heart Gold, I had a Flaaffy named Phillip K that (eventually evolved into Ampharos) made it all the way to the Elite Four with me. It's Static ability really saved me in a lot of tough situations, and in Phillip's honor.... Flaaffy has earn this title as my favorite Gen 2 Pokemon.
