Counting Down Pokemon Favorites : GENERATION 1

Continuing the Pokemon countdown of my favorites from each generation!
So, I've selection three Pokemon from each; one winner, and two runner-ups.
This is taking into account my feelings of the Pokemon's design, stats, and my personal experience with them in battle.

I won't include legendaries in the generations; just normal Pokemon.
Legendaries got their own post.

Today I've going to touch base with ....

He's #1 for a reason! Bulbasaur has had to grow (no pun intended) on me since Red/Blue days.  I was always more inclined to pick Charmander or Squirtle simply for their 'coolness' factor, and as a kid, I didn't understand how a frog with a giant flower on its back could be cooler than a dragon or a turtle with cannons. On one chance playthrough though, I decided to use him- and it revolutionized my Pokemon gameplay as we know it. I became a believer in Grass and Poison type Pokemon. They are versatile- bulky, special, support, set-up, kamikaze- any kind of move-set you want, and they are underestimated. Bulbasaur seems like a pretty laidback Pokemon too, so not only do I like it on a competitive level, but a personal level. Bulbasaur and I would be great friends in the Pokemon world. I choose this as my starter.

Arcanine was one of my favorites as a kid, and continues to be through the Pokemon canon lore. I mean, come on, it's a huge fluffy flaming dog! -what is not to love about that? Arcanine was a serious competitor in Red/Blue days, but has been overshadowed by some newer Fire-type Pokemon. Arcanine still wins me over as one of my favorite Fire-type because it looks fierce, sounds fierce, but is also sweet and loyal like any dog in the real world. Science could definitely reproduce a Growlithe / Arcanine, and part of that reality aspect draws me to Arcanine.

Okay, so Wigglytuff isn't the first Pokemon that comes to mind whenever people are talking about Generation 1 Pokemon. That's because honestly it wasn't a good Pokemon to battle in Generation 1; you only got a Wigglytuff to complete your Pokedex, and Moon Stones aren't easy to come by. Fast forward to about Generation 3, and Wigglytuff and other normal types get some appreciation because normals can learn a vast pool of movesets, and since Wigglytuff is essentially an HP tank, this makes for all sorts of cruel tricks. My Wigglytuff Louisa on my Pokemon Emerald nuzlocke is easily my MVP for all of these reasons.... now that it is dual-typed in Generation 6, Wigglytuff is one of the few unstoppable Pokemon. No more weakness to Dragons and Darks but with a new way to kick Fighting ass -- more and more people are coming to appreciate this pink fluffball, myself included. I have REALLY come to love this Pokemon.
